Lower Segment Caesarean Scar -How to Measure Thickness & Assess Integrity

Author: Avni KP Skandhan, Aster MIMS, Kottakkal, Kerala.

The number of women having childbirth through a lower segment caesarean section (LSCS) is increasing each year. The LSCS scar can remain as a weaker part of the lower uterine segment and lead to an increased tendency to rupture in the subsequent pregnancies. Rupture of the LSCS scar is a possibility during an attempted Vaginal delivery in a woman who had a Caesarean section earlier. Ultrasound can help to determine the thickness and the integrity of the scar, which helps to plan the mode delivery of the baby.

This video explains appropriate techniques to determine scar thickness and to assess the integrity of the scar.
